DeKalb, IL – Illinois Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense (DoD) office, announced that Sundog, Inc. (Sundog) was honored with a Freedom Award Nomination in support of its employees who serve in the Illinois Guard and Reserve.

Cohen Barnes, Sundog CEO and Veteran of the United States Army, accepted the nomination from Laurie Silvey of the Illinois Committee for ESGR.

The ESGR Freedom Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize American employers like Sundog, who provide patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve. Supportive employers like Sundog are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.

“We are honored to have been nominated for this award by Army Lt Dale Boughton from the 3rd Detachment of the 2nd Battalion 122nd Field Artillery Regiment” said Barnes. “He is a valuable member of the Sundog team and we are proud to support him and future Guard and Reservists in any way possible.”

Sundog, joins with thousands of American employers who have reviewed and amended their current human resources policies to ensure compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). Many employers provide support far above and beyond that which is expected or required under USERRA with pay differential to offset the loss of wages, and extension of health care benefits which complement coverage provided by the military when their employees are mobilized.

“Sundog is proud to be one of many employers from across the State that have signed a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve showing our support for our Illinois Citizen Warriors.”, said Barnes.
